Mount Alexander Winery

Set in a picturesque hidden valley, Mount Alexander vineyards are planted in the sandy granite soils of Sutton Grange, which are famed for producing high quality shiraz and cabernet sauvignon.

Leaning on the elements of modernism and sustainability, Mount Alexander Winery prides themselves on housing two state-of-the-art solar systems, which generate all the electrical power for the winery, cellar door and the residence.

Specialising in full-bodied whites and reds, Mount Alexander Winery produces chardonnay, pinot noir, cabernet shiraz and shiraz, as well as rosé. They produce up to six different wines each year, stemmed from 7.5 hectares of vines.

This relatively new winery was started and developed in 2000 by current owners, Bill and Sandra Blamires. The first wines were released in 2006 and have since won multiple awards for their excellence.

Tasting Notes

2007 Mount Alexander

The 2007 Shiraz shows a colour of bright crimson with purple highlights and gives an aroma of licorice and plums and has a lovely earthiness. The palette is big and mouth-filling, with excellent varietal fruit flavours and good tannic grip.

2008 Mount Alexander
Cabernet Shiraz

The 2008 Cabernet Shiraz shows a gorgeous looking crimson/purple in the glass with intense black fruits, with sweet and spicy aromas, supported by some very subtle oak and layers of firm, ripe tannins. Great flavour persistence.
