Train Trak Winery

As you cross the train tracks on the way up the driveway, you will see Train Trak Wines’ vines, family estate and breathtaking views of the Yarra Valley on all sides. The vineyard comprises 40 acres of chardonnay, pinot noir, cabernet sauvignon and shiraz. The cellar door is a converted hayshed that encompasses the history of the property; including a famous moose and glorious old barn doors that open up to reveal one of the most envied views in the Yarra Valley.

The Train Trak vineyard was once home to the historic Yarra Valley Railway, which opened in 1889 and ran through the property adjacent to the vines. The Mayall family has owned the rural property in Yarra Glen since the 1970s, planting vines in 1995 after the railway’s closure in 1980. Fortuitously, the train track that is part of the rich heritage of the Yarra Valley is currently able to run a shortened route, with the full track to Yarra Glen due to reopen in 2016.

Wines are hand-picked, from its single vineyard, with an emphasis on low cropping levels, and the intense varietal flavor, depth and character of the Yarra Valley. Winemaking reflects modern adaptations of traditional techniques, such as barrel fermentation in French oak and gentle plunging of open top fermenters, ensuring all the intense cool climate flavours and colours are extracted.

As you stroll across the open lawns, enjoy the family-friendly atmosphere and take the time to enjoy the spectacular views. At Train Trak Wines, it is all about the experience, and the trained tasting staff are equipped to guide you through the wines, whether you’re a connoisseur or new to wine. The renowned Zonzo restaurant also provides the perfect setting to enjoy Train Trak wines. Either warm yourself by the open fireplace or spread out under the shade in the alfresco dining area while absorbing the panoramic views and history of the Yarra Valley, Victoria’s first wine region.
