Medhurst Wines

Located on the western edge of the Warramate Hills at the centre of the Yarra Valley, Medhurst Wines is a hidden treat when you travel to the Yarra Valley.

Medhurst Wines’ café, nestled on the ridge above the vineyard, is the perfect place to relax and enjoy a peaceful meal. The Medhurst Wines range of delicious estate grown wines can be enjoyed whilst overlooking the impressive new winery, intriguing sculptures and tranquil grounds that are beautifully manicured. The subtle detail of the property – the winding driveway and remnant bushland juxtapose with the striking modern architecture of the winery and café – make Medhurst Wines a must-visit destination.

The café has a warm and friendly ambience, but if you can, grab a table outside, or better still, get one of the great picnic hampers and find a spot on the grass to enjoy a bottle of wine and a delicious lunch. During summer the café has extended twilight hours on weekends, so that visitors can relax, have a picnic on the grass and savour the magnificent sunset.

The vineyard was established by Ross and Robyn Wilson in 1999, with separate blocks planted to individual varieties that match the personality of the variety to the site.

As well as each of the varieties grown – chardonnay, sauvignon blanc, pinot noir, cabernet sauvignon and shiraz – Medhurst Wines also make a delicate, dry rosé from its low-cropped cabernet and shiraz fruit.

All of the wines are estate grown and made in the state-of-the-art winery. Detailed winemaking ensures that the wines express the personality of their variety and reflect the season in which they were grown. Both chardonnay and pinot noir are exceptional, with the stunning dry and pale rosé setting the benchmark for classy rosé.

Medhurst Wines also hosts pre-arranged functions for small groups of up to 60 people who are looking to enjoy their special occasion with great food and wine in a wonderful setting.

Tasting Notes

2010 Medhurst Wines Chardonnay

Lively and complex with great poise, this wine delivers everything that a modern chardonnay promises. It is crisp and clean, yielding hints of fresh fruits and exotic flavours, honey-suckle aromas and a bee’s wax texture that will add to the creaminess of this elegant wine.

2010 Medhurst Wines Pinot Noir

Shallow soil and intensely flavoured fruit creates a tremendous richness and depth of flavour that can be tasted in this pinot noir. Winner of the Best Pinot Noir trophy at the 2011 Royal Melbourne Wine Show, the 2010 Medhurst Wines Pinot Noir does not disappoint. Enjoy with duck or pork dishes.

2011 Medhurst Wines Rosé

A classy and dry rosé, this wine is a blend of cabernet and shiraz and was produced for frivolous enjoyment. It is inspired by the wines of Provence and has aromas of fresh strawberries. With a dry finish and long aftertaste, this rosé can be relished with pasta, cured meats or simply on its own.

2008 Medhurst Wines Cabernet Sauvignon

Red cherries, blackberries and mulberries are supported by cinnamon and spice aromas. The rich tannins in this wine balance perfectly with the acidity. The 2008 Medhurst Wines Cabernet Sauvignon has a lovely, intense deep red and bright purple hue and will improve with cellaring.
